Tools for low-carbon life at the Climate Marketplace project 2015–2017

The Climate Marketplace project developed new methods for promoting low-carbon life in the Joensuu region. The project encouraged businesses, communities and residents to take climate action and inspired a more low-carbon life. The project was the first climate project in Joensuu.

The project launched the Joensuu region climate partnership network for businesses and organisations, in which the City of Joensuu encourages and commits local operators to undertake concrete and systematic climate action. Businesses join the network by signing a contract committing them to develop their operations to make them more climate-friendly and low-carbon.

The Climate Marketplace organised three low-threshold cooperation trials for local businesses and organisations. These were the edible park planted at Penttilänranta, the urban wetlands at Niinivaara and regional bus transports to the Ilosaarirock festival and the Farmari agricultural fair.

The project also participated in various events and organised guidance sessions to promote a low-carbon life. Low-carbon April was a trial organised for residents. Participating families investigated their own carbon footprint and ways to diminish it.

The project Tools for low-carbon life at the climate marketplace operated in 2015–2017. It was funded by the City of Joensuu and the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).

More information on the trials implemented by the project is available in the pocket book of encouraging climate work.
